Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio Announces 2020 Youth of the Year
The Youth of the Year award recognizes exemplary teens who have made significant contributions to their
family, school, community, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio.
We are proud to announce the 2020 Youth of the Year is Aidan M.!
Aidan was presented the 2020 Youth of the Year award during the 3rd Annual Youth of the Year Gala at The Tobin Center for Performing Arts. During the Youth of the Year Gala, guests heard six Youth of the Year finalists present their personal stories of triumph in the face of adversity, advocate for issues they are passionate about, and speak of how each of their Club experiences have shaped their individual paths.
Aidan, who has been a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio for two years, found his voice while
participating in leadership programs at the Clubs. As a young filmmaker, he captures the world around him to make others aware of the issues currently facing society.
During his speech at the Youth of the Year Gala, Aidan took a moment to bring awareness to the issues of
pollution and its negative effects on the environment.
“The Earth has been polluted tremendously to the point where if we don’t do something about it now, then we won’t have an Earth to live on anymore. That’s a crazy thought! Even if you are someone who doesn’t care about problems, how could you not care about this? I know that we need to do something about it. We need to stop global warming.”
Aidan plans to use his passion for filmmaking to help spread awareness about global warming through short films and social media. He wants to use his platform to help youth understand the issues and make a change for the better.
Next month, Aidan will compete at the state competition in Austin with other Youth of the Year winners from around the state. The winner from the state competition will then move on to the regional competition for a chance to earn college scholarships and advance to the national Boys & Girls Clubs of America competition later this year.
Congratulations to all six of our 2020 Youth of the Year finalists who bravely presented their personal stories of triumph in the face of adversity, gave a voice to their passions, and showed how each of their Club experiences have shaped their individual paths. You are the change. You are the future.
