Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio Announces 2019 Youth of the Year

The Youth of the Year award recognizes exemplary teens who have made significant contributions to their family, school, community, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio.

Aaliyah Glover, a senior at Stevens High School, was presented the 2019 Youth of the Year award during the 2nd annual Youth of the Year Gala at the Mays Family Clubhouse. During the Youth of the Year Gala, guests watched five Youth of the Year finalists present their personal stories of triumph in the face of adversity and heard how each of their Club experiences have shaped their individual paths.

Aaliyah, who has been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio for 11 years, is a medaled swimmer and team captain of her varsity swim team. She first discovered her passion for swimming at the age of seven during swim lessons at the Calderon Clubhouse on San Antonio’s Westside.

During her speech at the Youth of the Year Gala Aaliyah took a moment to thank everyone for her Club experience.

“I want to say thank you to the Boys & Girls Club for giving me opportunities of a life time. Things that I will take with me to college and in my future. You gave me the chance to really find myself.”

Next month, Aaliyah will compete at the state competition in Austin with other Youth of the Year winners from around the state. The winner from the state competition will then move on to the regional competition for a chance to earn college scholarships and advance to the national competition later this year.
