“I never considered that I may not have afterschool care for my daughter, Roniyah. Mostly because my mom had always helped me take care of my son and Roniyah while I was at work. But that all changed when she passed away last April. Everything changed. And as a single parent, I didn’t have many options. It’s hard to find people you can trust with your kids, especially when they are so young.

I knew the Boys & Girls Club had an afterschool program at Roniyah’s school, and even crossed paths with Ms. Regina, the program manager, a few times but never considered enrolling her before this year. My sister had attended the Eastside Club when she was a teenager so I was familiar with the opportunities of their programs but for me, staff consistency was the biggest selling point. Ms. Regina in particular was my selling point because she reminded me of my mom when we first met. She just has this momma aura about her. That’s the best way I can explain it.”

Thanks to you, and others like you, kids like Roniyah have somewhere safe to go when the school bells ring at the end of the day. The Club staff is a community of support – a home away from home.

This holiday season, give peace of mind to parents like Lashanda and donate to Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio. We keep our membership costs low, without compromising program effectiveness, but that’s only possible with supporters like you covering the remaining costs. Please give today.
