American Ballet Theatre and Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) started a partnership in 2014 to introduce children to classical ballet through a master class series at BGCA locations across the country. In 2014, over 600 students participated, and in 2015 over 800 children participated nationwide. From these master classes talented children with the natural ability and desire to dance were awarded with scholarships for ballet training. Fifteen children were identified for scholarships in 2014 and 37 in 2015. We are very excited to continue exposing children to ballet through this medium again this year.

Project Plié is an initiative founded by ABT in 2013 to increase diversity in the art form of classical ballet. Danielle Campbell Steans is an ABT Certified Teacher in Pre-Primary through Level 5 and is a Project Plié Partner Teacher. As a Project Plié Partner Teacher, Campbell Steans is bringing the initiative to San Antonio, Texas and the San Antonio Ballet School. Campbell Steans will teach the ABT Project Plié Master Class Series at the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio.

About San Antonio Ballet School: San Antonio Ballet School (SABS) is San Antonio’s only ballet school with American Ballet Theatre Certified Instruction. Conveniently located in Castle Hills, SABS focuses on quality classical ballet instruction in a nurturing environment. At SABS, we believe every child can dance and should be afforded that opportunity regardless of ability, age or ethnic heritage. With smaller class sizes, no child is overlooked and every student is treated equally.

About American Ballet Theatre’s Project Plié Initiative: American Ballet Theatre (ABT) launched Project Plié in September of 2013 to increase diversity in America’s classical ballet companies and schools. ABT has partnered with 12 ballet companies and over 200 ABT certified instructors nationwide to identify, train, and support talented young students in their pursuit of professional careers in ballet. The Project Plié Master Class Series held in Boys & Girls Clubs across the country serves to introduce children to ballet and identify talented children for future training. The initiative is also committed to fostering the development of classical ballet teachers and arts administrators of color. Since the initiative began, scholarship opportunities have been extended for ABT’s National Training Curriculum Teacher Training Courses and the ABT Internship Program.
