ZAC CAMP COMES TO SAN ANTONIO
The ZAC Foundation Selects Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio to Host ZAC Camp on July 30
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio is one of 10 Clubs chosen as part of a national partnership between The ZAC Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America to expand water safety programming locally
San Antonio, TX (July 23, 2013) – To continue the remarkable legacy of 6-year-old Zachary Archer Cohn who drowned in a drain entrapment in 2007, Conn.-based water safety organization The ZAC Foundation has teamed up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio to bring the Foundation’s award-winning ZAC Camp to more than 100 local 5-9 year olds through its grant program.
The San Antonio ZAC Camp is part of a national partnership initiative undertaken by The ZAC Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America to bring lifesaving water-safety skills to more than 1,000 of the youngest members of ten Clubs across the country. The Clubs were selected through a rigorous application process and chosen based on their commitment to advancing water safety locally.
“After losing Zachary, my husband Brian and I vowed to prevent another family from having to endure the death of a child in a drowning or other water tragedy,” said Karen Cohn, co-founder of The ZAC Foundation. “ZAC Camps are designed to prepare children and their families for a lifetime of water safety and we are excited to expand our program to campers at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio.”
The ZAC Camp program combines in-pool swimming lessons, safety classes with First Responders, and classroom curriculum. By week’s end campers are equipped with critical tools to ensure safe swimming, including: fundamental stroke training, emergency preparedness and response, and basic lifesaving techniques.
“Like The ZAC Foundation, we are dedicated to keeping our campers water safe and are thrilled to expand our water-safety programming with the inclusion of ZAC Camps,” said Angie Mock, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio. “With our close proximity to various lakes, rivers and the gulf coast, it’s imperative that we equip our members with the skills they need to always safely enjoy the water around them.”
